Our November 2018 Spotlight :: Stephanie Cattarin

Stephanie Cattarin is a Real Estate Agent for Hunt Real Estate ERA, at the Elmwood Ave office in Buffalo. Stephanie began her career in real estate five years ago after leaving an 11 year career in higher education, 7 years at Niagara University and 4 years at Canisius College. After her daughters graduated with Bachelor’s degrees, tuition free, it was time for her to make a change.  After, years of a Monday thru Friday, 9-5 job, Stephanie was interested in a career that would give her flexibility and control over her time.  Real estate was a natural fit for Stephanie as she once owned an interior design business and was also a sales rep for Formica Inc. calling on architects, builders, designers….her love for homes and design has always been a huge part of her.

Stephanie loves lots of different things about her job, first off, she simply loves houses and everything about them.  Stephanie’s family used to joke about how she would go to every open house in her area and end up seeing the inside of every house in Lewiston.  But her favorite thing is helping folks maneuver their way around what can be a very stressful and complicated process.  Whether moving in or moving out she loves being able to assist people with this exciting stage of their life.

Stephanie married her high school sweetheart 33 years ago.  Her eldest daughter lives in Charlottesville, Virginia and is an assistant to the Curator at the Fralin Museum, University of Virginia.   Her second daughter lives in Amherst with her new husband and is a manager at Wegmans and has her own baking business.  Her son lives in Niagara Falls and works in the elevator industry with his father.   Stephanie is a forever WNY’er living in the Lewiston/Youngstown area her entire life.  They moved to their current home on Lake Ontario two years ago and feel truly grateful for that every day.

Interview

How did you learn about ABWA?

“I first heard about ABWA while at Canisius College and my association with the Women’s Business Center.  I was the Executive Director for the Center for Professional Development and we worked together in many situations.”

Why did you join ABWA? What interested you about the organization?

“I decided to join this past year for a few reasons.  As an independent contractor, which is basically what you are as a real estate agent, much of my time is spent working independently.  The opportunity to be part of group of business people with similar goals and challenges as the ABWA was very appealing to me.  Also, business networking is always a huge part of any business’s success, and I couldn’t think of a group I’d rather network with.”

Why did you feel it was important to be a part of this organization?

“The educational opportunities are great, including the monthly speaker meetings, great speakers and current, meaningful topics.”

What would you like other women to know about ABWA?

“ABWA WNY has been a welcoming and professional experience for me and nothing but a positive one!”

What inspires you?

“Mostly people! People doing great things, people doing simple things, and anyone doing kind things.”

Do you volunteer? If so, why and for what organizations?

“I’m on the board of the Youngstown Business and Professional Association and will be beginning to work with Meals on Wheels, Niagara County”
